To connect your WordPress blogging platform to ACME.BOT, you’ll need to generate an Application Password. This allows ACME.BOT to securely access your site’s content without using your main WordPress password.
Steps to Get Your Application Password for ACME.BOT:
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard. (Usually yourwebsite.com/wp-admin)
- Navigate to Your User Profile. In the left-hand menu, go to Users > Your Profile. (Alternatively, click your name/avatar in the top-right admin bar and select “Edit Profile”).
- Note Your Username. At the top of your profile page, you’ll see your Username field. Copy and save this username – you’ll need it later for the ACME.BOT connection settings. This is your WordPress login username, not the application password name.

- Scroll Down to “Application Passwords”. You’ll find this section towards the bottom of your profile page.

Application Passwords’ area on WordPress User Profile edit - (Note: If you don’t see this section, first check the “Pretty Permalinks” prerequisite below. If that’s set correctly, a security plugin might be disabling it, or your user role might not have permission.)
- Name Your New Application Password. In the “New Application Password Name” field, enter a descriptive name. For this purpose, type: ACME.BOT Connection (or simply ACME.BOT). This is just a label to help you identify this password later – it’s NOT your username.
- Click “Add New Application Password”.
- Copy the Generated Password. WordPress will immediately display a new password (e.g., abcd efgh ijkl mnop qrst uvwx). IMPORTANT: This password will only be shown ONCE. Copy it immediately and store it temporarily in a safe place (like a plain text editor). You will not be able to see it again in WordPress.
- Use Both Credentials in ACME.BOT:
- Username field: Enter your WordPress username (from step 3)
- Application Password field: Enter the generated password (from step 7)
Input for the ACME.BOT Connection Form (based on your image):
- Website: [Enter your full WordPress website URL, including http:// or https://, e.g., https://yourblog.com]
- Username: [Enter the WordPress username you used to generate the Application Password]
- Application Password: [Paste the unique Application Password you just generated and copied from your WordPress profile for “ACME.BOT Connection”]
After filling these details in the ACME.BOT platform, click “Authorize” to establish the connection.
Prerequisites:
Before you begin, ensure the following conditions are met on your WordPress site:
- Pretty Permalinks Enabled:
- ACME.BOT, like many services using WordPress Application Passwords, relies on the WordPress REST API. This API works best when “pretty permalinks” are enabled (e.g., yourwebsite.com/your-post-name/ instead of yourwebsite.com/?p=123).
- How to check/enable:
- In your WordPress Admin Dashboard, go to Settings > Permalinks.
- Ensure any option other than “Plain” is selected. “Post name” is a common and recommended choice.
- Click Save Changes. If you change this setting, WordPress will update your .htaccess file (or provide instructions if it can’t).
- WordPress Version:
- Ensure your WordPress installation is reasonably up-to-date. Application Passwords are a core feature available in recent versions.
- WordPress REST API Enabled & Accessible:
- The REST API is enabled by default in modern WordPress versions.
- However, some security plugins or custom code might disable or restrict access to it. If you encounter issues, check your security plugin settings for any options related to “REST API” access.
- User Role Permissions:
- The WordPress user account you use to generate the Application Password must have the capability to do so. Typically, users with “Administrator” or “Editor” roles can create Application Passwords.
- Security Plugins:
- If you use a security plugin (e.g., Wordfence, iThemes Security, Sucuri), it might have settings that interfere with Application Passwords or REST API access. Temporarily disabling such features or whitelisting ACME.BOT access might be necessary for troubleshooting if you face connection issues. Check for settings related to “Application Passwords,” “REST API,” or even “XML-RPC” (as some plugins group these).
- HTTPS (Recommended):
- Your website should be using HTTPS (SSL/TLS certificate installed) for secure communication between ACME.BOT and your WordPress site.
